Sunday 11th April - Premier match v Kent Club Report
Congratulations & Well done to all of you that played today. With NO defences in the squad everybody (well nearly) were given the opportunity to show what they were capable of doing in that end of the court.
Ten players fit, or shall I say ‘fit to travel’ we made the short journey to Kent to play bottom of the Premier 1 league team Kent Club. In the premier league there are no easy games and although we started brilliantly by taking a 9 goal lead we knew we had to continue to work hard in all areas of the court to ensure we came away with a win. The 2nd quarter, we were forced to make several substitutions and Kent started to get the measure of our defenders and their defence tightened up to keep the score at 15 -15. In the 3rd quarter we had to make several team changes again but this time our defences made up of centre court players were tighter in the circle. We made Kent attack make several unforced errors and along with several rebounds created a few extra turnovers. Our attacking play today was fast and skilful which our shooters were able to finish off with great finesse for another 16 goals. The last quarter was disappointing in that we lost this Q by 6. The players had given it their all with a great deal of effort and commitment to the team.
A lot of positives came out of this match as we converted directly 65% of our centre passes into goals: Our three shooters hit three 100% shooting stats throughout the match to give us an overall excellent display of 85% team average. We worked tirelessly putting pressure on Kent all the way down the court to give our ‘new defences’ as much help as possible. We were not disappointed from all this hard work as we were able to create 42 turnovers for a good win in the end.

Sunday 21st March - Premier match v The Downes (A)
We seem to be going in fits and starts this season regarding the wins and losses. Having played so well the previous outing we found ourselves up against a very determined Surrey team 'The Downes' who wanted and needed a win to keep them up in Div 1.
Same shooting opportunities in the 1st Q for both teams but unfortunate for us we were not as accurate as the opposition and found ourselves down by 4 goals to 10. 2nd Q we made a few changes but the excellent defending of Hannah Reid (Surrey Storm) and her defending partner made very little difference to our attacking end and we finished 15 goals down. In this Q it did not help as their GA Michelle Hall (Surrey Storm) was on fire and scored the first of her two 100% shooting stats. With a few substitutions and positional changes our team started to fight back to pull 1 goal back. This was mainly due to our turnovers and at last some accuracy in bringing the ball down the court. The last quarter saw us achieve goals from the first 5 centre passes and you started to feel perhaps the momentum was changing and there was still a chance to gain that extra point. Unfortunately for us their defences worked tirelessly and Michelle at the other end hit another 100% scoring 14/14 goals to take the score line way out of our reach. It was just not our day this week.

Sunday 7th March - Prem v Linden Report
Although we did not win the 1st Q it was overall a much better start this week as we found ourselves just 3 goals down 9 – 12 with both teams having the same number of shooting opportunities. From the 2nd Q onwards Cambell worked extremely hard in defence to put pressure on the young Linden centre court players. This resulted in NC turning the ball over 17 times which in turn pushed the score line in Cambell’s favour for a lead of 23 goals to 20 at half time. In the third quarter the match could have gone either way but NC were not in the mood to let the lead disappear. They continued to put pressure on all the way through the court picking up 4 great interceptions which resulted in a run of 6 goals to increase the lead further. In the last quarter Cambell were on fire, being able to convert 9 of their centre passes into goals and with a fantastic team defence were able to create another 14 turnovers to take the last quarter score to 15 goals to 7. Overall this was the best the team has played all season. With their attack as well as their defence working in units and therefore producing some excellent team work in all areas of the court for a good result. This win has moved us up one place to 5th position just ahead of Linden.

Sunday 28th Feb - Prem v Academy Report
Cambell seem to be very slow starters as again this week we found ourselves in the position of trying to play catch up. Unfortunately we were playing League leaders Academy and they were not in the mood to give us an inch. Although we had a much better 2nd quarter as far as the score line was concerned it was not good enough and we still found ourselves 10 goals down. A disastrous 3rd quarter, where we made too many errors both in attack and defence eventually put the game out of our reach. Our 4th Q saw an improvement in the score line but not necessarily in our team work. All credit to Academy as they looked far slicker then us and played like a team that are at the top.

Sunday 7th Feb - Prem v Stash Blades Report
New Cambell are sponsored by Kukri Sports & Aquarend Group
It was good to have a home fixture as the last one played was back at the beginning of December. We had more players to select from this week which Jillean was very pleased about - so she says thank you shooters.
Again we did not start well and saw us trailing the young team from Southampton in this 1st Q by 6 goals. The 2nd Q we were able to turn this around by tightening up our defending play all the way down the court. This in turn put pressure on Blades and increased our turnovers which resulted in 20 opportunities for our shooters compared to Stash Blades‘s 13 to take this quarter 17 – 9: The 3rd Q was close as both teams had similar shooting ops but we were able to pull away this quarter by 4 more goals due to the better accuracy. In the last quarter N Cambell continued the tight defending all the way down the court and with some excellent feeding they were able to take this quarter by 3 goals. A Good Win well played every one and thank you to all the spectators, it was a good competitive match to be involved in.

Sunday 31st Jan - Prem v Oldham Report
An early morning start for the squad this week for their match in Manchester. A journey that should take approx 4 ½ hours ended up taking 5 ½ with snow, sleet and road works taking its toll on our journey. Oldham kindly delayed the start of the match to give the girls time to stretch their legs and get a good warm up.
We were already depleted of players this week due to various reasons but we are very fortunate to be able to add the names of our Manager and Assistant coach to be able to take our travelling squad to ten players.
We did not start well with plenty of errors all the way down the court due to some great play by Oldham. 8 – 16: The 2nd quarter saw an inspirational change – not from team changes but a belief in themselves which saw Cambell take the first 4 goals to bring the team back into contention. This they continued and they were able to take the score to 23 – 22 in N Cambell’s favour. Unfortunately a serious injury in the last 5 minutes of this quarter when our already stand in shooter Sam had to be lifted off the court. Movement within the team saw our WD take up the GA role for the rest of this quarter.
The start of the third quarter saw us bring on our ‘super sub / Manager’ Jillean to take up the GA position now. This third quarter was close due to the excellent shooting from both teams with just 1 goal missed from all 4 players which kept just the 1 goal difference. The last quarter N Cambell came out with determination and now being a little more settled was able to get a good run of 5 goals early in this quarter which they were able to extend for an excellent 19 – 12 last quarter for an excellent win.

Sunday 17th January v Oaksway (Away?) Report
It was that time of the year again the dreaded journey to the north! An early start saw the team set off for their road trip to Hartlepool (or was it Hull????) at 5.30am Sunday morning. The team managed to get in a few hours sleep before our first stop on the A1, the little chef! The squad enjoyed a healthy option breakfast in preparation for our big game.
We arrived at the centre in plenty of time! So we used the time wisely to reflect and discuss past experiences such as the evil sister who went about cutting pony tails, the Benidorm evening entertainment and Lauren’s facebook obsession. The game started at 1pm. Oaksway had a full squad of 12 in preparation for their super league game the following day. However, Cambell were in good spirits and had a focussed warm up.
Oaksway came out in the first quarter very strong, where they found their shooter with little problems, who was converting her shots each time. Cambell took some time to settle, and found difficulty bringing the ball through the court. Our defence were still trying to find the best solution to combat Oaksways tall shooter. The quarter ended 19-9 to Oaksway. The first quarter score meant Cambell needed to make changes in both our attack and defence. Gemma went from GS to GA, Rochelle went from GA-GA, Claire from GD to GK and Lauren from GK to GD. The changes worked, we were scoring from our centre pass and bringing the ball through the court with little difficulty. The defence were making turnovers and driving the ball through the court. Rochelle settled at GS and Claire was causing Oaksway’s shooter problems. Cambell won this quarter, however the quarter ended 29-22 to Oaksway.
The third quarter saw Oaksway utilise their squad and make several changes. Cambell responded and started strongly. Jade came on at WD and opened the quarter with an interception from the oppositions centre pass. Rochelle was playing her best netball, Holly and Katie found the space to feed her, and Rochelle converted. Meanwhile our defence were working well as a unit, and causing problems for Oaksway. The quarter ended 40-33 to Oaksway.
The final quarter saw Oaksway use their fresh legs to their advantage. Cambell were working hard, however tiredness saw us make silly errors and lose possession. We lost that quarter 17-7.
Score: 19 - 9 ; 13 - 10; 11-11 : 7- 17: Final Score 40- 57

Sunday 6th December v Hucclecote (Glos) Report
New Cambell are sponsored by Kukri Sports & Aquarend Group
NC started well this week scoring the first couple of goals but a few errors and Hucclecote soon pounced and pulled it back. A reasonable good first Q as we found ourselves up by just the odd goal 11-10: There was little change in the 2nd Q with both teams giving their shooters similar opportunities to score but this time we lost this one by the odd goal to make it all even at half time. 3rd Q was our downfall this week as we did not create enough shooting opportunities and although Gemma scored 100% it was not enough and we found ourselves 3 goals down. In the 4th Q Hucclecote pulled away further from us but sheer determination from NC gradually started to see them claw the score back but unfortunately not enough to give us that extra point that we wanted and lost the match by 5 goals;

Sunday 29th November v Team Bath Away Report:
A disappointing start did not help New Cambell’s aim to win this match. Cambell were very sluggish in this 1st Q and found themselves 8 goals down which was the complete opposite to last week’s brilliant 1st Q. In the 2nd Q it was a much better team effort as the team changes started to take effect and lost this one by 3 goals. Substitutions again in the 3rd quarter gave Cambell the determination to work hard both in attack and defence to gain a 1 goal advantage by scoring 18 goals to Baths 17. In the last quarter the game continued with neither team giving an inch but unfortunately for us we were unable to claw back the 9 goal deficit in the 1st half. A very high scoring match with the
Final score of 51 - 63 to Team Bath

A disappointing result today as we played well enough in parts to win this match. Throughout the game NC worked hard on all that I asked them, one of which was to try and give our shooters more opportunities. This was made quite difficult at times as the feeding in and timing of the movement into the shooters was heavily marked which put a lot of pressure on all of those concerned. There were moments when we made the opposition look good as either our movement was not slick enough or the wrong type of pass was used. As a team we worked hard in defence but there were still players well away from their opponents just watching what was going on. The circle defence is starting to come together as a pair which is good. At half time team changes were made and we won this quarter and worked hard in the last to get a draw but unfortunately not enough to pull back the 3 goal deficit.
Congratulations Monique on your first game for New Cambell

England Netball Premier Club League Div 1 v Linden (B'Ham)
A minutes silence was held just before the start of this Premier match against Linden this week to show respect for one of our club players. Some of Linden along with members of New Cambell had played with or against Wendy in the past and we can only thank Linden and the umpires for allowing this to take place.
Cambell did not start particularly well and soon found themselves 3 – 6 down which increased quite rapidly during the 1st quarter to a disastrous deficit of 7 – 15 goals. Lack of concentration from Cambell and a great deal of pressure from Linden gave our shooters very few opportunities to score goals whilst Linden had some 39 opportunities scoring 31 of these to Cambell’s 12. In the 3rd Q substitutions were made which altered the Cambell’s attacking style of play and started to play with more confidence. With the defences now also starting to work harder they were able to cut out a few more feeds into the circle which restricted their shooters to just 12 shots compared to our 14 attempts. We started to produce some good netball skills in attack and put a little more pressure on Lindens attacking end for New Cambell to take this quarter 11 goals to 6. The 4th quarter was all about the number of errors both teams made, both defending ends tightened up to put pressure on the shooters and also the feeders which resulted in a 5 – 5 draw.
Played under very difficult circumstances for both teams Linden won this match 28 – 42.

England Premier League Division 1 v Academy NC (Middlessex)
New Cambell are sponsored by Aquarend Group & Kukri Sports for their Prem Matches.
An excellent squad performance from New Cambell in what can only be described as an enjoyable game and one that was a pleasure to watch and be involved in. Both teams had their moments of some great defending and attacking moves and was umpired superbly as you did not know the umpires were there but were in total control at all times. The match result could have gone either way and it was not until the final whistle was the result finally known.
The first quarter gave both teams similar shooting opportunities to score with lots of ‘in court’ play which resulted in us winning this by just 1 goal 10 -9: With both teams keeping the same line up NC continued to work hard but mistakes were starting to creep in and some silly errors (non pressurised) were being made and we lost this quarter 8 -11: Substitutions were made by us at the start of the 3rd Quarter which seemed to enthral some new expectations, but it was nearly 5 minutes into the game before a goal was scored. Injury forced Academy into making a change which seemed to unsettle them a little and we managed to take 4 goals off of them. We then let this slip a little with mistiming of some movements and not always using the correct pass, Academy came straight back with 5 goals of their own. This was a real topsy turvy quarter as we then scored 4 goals again on the trot to take this quarter by 9 goals to 6 and only allowing them 7 opportunities to score I think this was the real winner. Going into the last quarter we were just one goal up, and knew we were in there with a chance of a win if only we could continue to play as a ‘team’ therefore working hard together in both attack and defence. The team did not disappoint me, yes there were errors but with great determination from all of the players they continued to work hard with some great skills and determination to take this last quarter by 7 goals to 6 to take the match with a final score line of 34 -32:
An excellent squad performance as there were just 1 or 2 goals difference throughout this match and all players had to continually work hard in both attack and defence to secure this win. I think it was more on the defending end this week that the game was won for us, due to the pressure put on the opposition we were able to turn the ball over 55 times unfortunately not always converting them into goals but I was very pleased with the work rate of all the players.
Player of the match: This was quite difficult to select this week as each one of the players did or tried to do what was asked of them. The POM this week is all of the players on and off the court for the support and back up they gave each other.
