2009/10 Season

England Premier League Division 1 - Sunday Oct 25th
Away v Stash Blades (Southampton)

New Cambell’s first away game of the season saw them take on Stash Blades from Southampton who gained promotion this season from Div 2, also finalists of the England Challenge Cup last season.
Although the first few minutes of the game went goal for goal Blades worked hard with a strong defence and making some good interceptions took 8 goals with just 1 goal from us in reply to take this 1st Q to 9 -14. With Just one change to start the next quarter we came out with determination to work hard and go back to set plays which started to work. In the latter half of this quarter we pulled the score line back to just 1 goal behind 20 -21 through some great court play: In the 3rd Q a new line up was introduced and with some great court work and some patient feeding in from Holly and Rose to our shooters now of Katie and Gemma we gradually pulled away to take this quarter 15 – 9. Going into the 4th Q just 5 goals up we knew it was not going to be easy to hold on to this small lead and we were not disappointed as Blades came out fighting and putting a lot of defending pressure on the attacking end which resulted in Blades taking 5 goals to our 1 and brought them right back in contention. Quite a physical hard last quarter as both teams wanted to gain procession of the ball. New Cambell though continued to work hard and was able to come out with several interceptions in the defending half of the court to again pump the ball back to the attacking end. With the score all level and a missed shot with just 1 minute to go again it was an interception from our defending end that turned the ball over and was carefully delivered to our shooters this time for them to score the winning goal for our 1st win of the season.
Final Score 40 -39

Sunday Oct 4th v Oldham (Manchester)

New Cambell are sponsored by Aquarend Group & Kukri Sports for their Prem Matches Results: 9 - 11: 11 - 10: 11 - 14: 9 - 7: Final Score 40 - 42:

With a training session behind us from last weeks close match we were looking forward to another tight but hard match against Oldham from Manchester.

A new starting line up took the court this week with the knowledge of a good training session behind them. This worked well in that we had more opportunities at scoring goals then the previous week but still found ourselves down by 2 goals 9 -11; Keeping the same team, the girls put pressure on Oldham down the court to enable our defending end to reap the benefits of 11 turnovers which included 5 intercepts to pull us back to just 1 goal behind having won this quarter 11 -10: A changed formation took the court in the 3rd quarter and where as it worked well in some areas of the court it didn’t work as well in others and we lost this quarter by 3 goals. 4th quarter saw another combination and this was working well as slowly the team started to pull the 4 goals deficit back until with a minute and half left on the clock it was level. Unfortunately 2 quick goals by Oldham meant they won the match at 40 – 42 another disappointing end to the match for more reasons then one.
Shooting Stats: NC 40/65 = 62%: Oldham 42/50 = 84%
Penalties: 23 awarded to NC in shooting circle: 8 awarded to Oldham:
